Gabby Storer from Chapel-en-le-Frith High School topped the final scoreboard at the event at Tupton Hall School in Chesterfield, with a grand total of 67 points.

Closely behind, with 65 points, was Jade Humphries from Shirebrook School, and in third place was fellow Shirebrook School pupil Kirsty Martin, who scored 62 points.

Meanwhile in the boys competition first place went to Sam Genn from Newbold Community School, scoring 62 points, Luke Downing from Tupton Hall School took second place with 60 points, and Joe Massey came third with 58 points.

Each pupil competed in their best three events, choosing from 80m sprint, long jump, ball throw and 800m.

Pupils also competed as part of their school team, with each of their scores added together to form an overall team score.

The winning boys team was Buxton Community School, with Shirebrook School in second place and Newbold Community School in third.

Shirebrook School won the girls team competition, beating Buxton Community School into second place. In third place was Hope Valley College.

Also competing in the East Midlands Airport Derbyshire Schools’ Northern Miniathlon Championships were pupils from Friesland School, New Mills School, Tupton Hall School, Deincourt Community School and Brookfield Community School.

Anna Thomson, Community Relations Manager at East Midlands Airport, which sponsored the event, said: “The Northern Miniathlon Championships are a great introduction to competitive athletics for pupils and hopefully it will spur them on to take part in other events.”

The East Midlands Airport Derbyshire Schools’ Northern Miniathlon Championships were held at Tupton Hall School on July 1, and followed the Southern Miniathlon Championships, which were held at Moorways Stadium in Derby on June 24.

Both events are part of the East Midlands Airport Derbyshire Schools’ Athletics Championships.
