Highfields School has staged its 3rd annual Sportsleaders Awards evening.

Sport England has published its new funding strategy, which sets out the investment programmes that will be available to organisations delivering grassroots sport from April 2009.

More than 350 schools in Derbyshire and 80 in Derby have been awarded kitemarks from the Youth Sport Trust in recognition of the work being done in PE and school sport.

A number of young athletes from Derbyshire are among those to have been selected to represent Team GB at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney later this month.

Entries are currently being encouraged for this year’s Derbyshire Building Society 10k and Family Fun Run, but for those who don’t fancy putting their running shoes on this time around, there are still ways to get involved – by becoming a volunteer.

Derbyshire’s David Brailsford and Anthony Kappes have been recognised in the New Year Honours List for their achievements in cycling.
