Jog Derbyshire officers start work

Two Jog Derbyshire officers have begun work to set up a county-wide jogging project to encourage hundreds of people to become more active.

Tom Crampton has been appointed as Jog Derbyshire Co-ordinator and will work with partners in South Derbyshire, Derbyshire Dales, Erewash and Amber Valley, and Kate Nelson has been appointed as Jog Derbyshire Officer and will work with partners in High Peak, North East Derbyshire, Bolsover and Chesterfield.

Both took up their posts on Monday, September 1.

Tom and Kate will work to set up a network of community-based jogging groups, aiming to encourage people to get fitter and be more active through gentle walking and jogging programmes which will be locally led by qualified Jog Leaders.

Tom said: “I’m thoroughly looking forward to getting involved in this new and exciting project for Derbyshire. I believe it will be a massive success and hopefully it will provide an enjoyable way for people to improve their health and fitness.”

Kate added: “I hope that our new Jog Derbyshire joggers get as much out of walking, running and jogging as I have, having progressed from a recreational jogger to a club runner in recent years.

“We want to encourage jogging as a fun, social activity, with the added bonus of it being great for health!”

Tom’s previous role was in GP referral, setting up community-based health and fitness projects throughout Nottingham for the YMCA.

He has also previously worked with GB White Water Rafting team, GB Freestyle Kayakers and Notts County FC as a Strength and Conditioning Coach and Sports Massage Therapist.

Kate has spent the last five years working in sport within the HE sector.
