Judges at the England Athletics National Awards in Solihull chose the club, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, as the winner after it first won the East Midlands prize in the same category.
The club was chosen on the basis of the work done by its athletes, coaches, parents and volunteers.
Committee member David Mourbey received the national award at a ceremony which saw 200 people including Olympic athletes gathering to mark the annual awards and inaugural England Athletics Hall of Fame event, and he rubbed shoulders with athletics legends such as David Hemery, Sally Gunnell, Ann Packer and double Olympic medallist Darren Campbell.
The citation noted that, despite a lack of modern training facilities for all but the last six months, the club had had an incredibly successful year, with two promotions gained, three athletes winning international honours, many gaining representative honours and numerous athletes ranked in the top 10 of their events.
Meanwhile at the same event, Steve Winfield from Belper Harriers was named Volunteer of the Year.
Steve’s work includes writing the Belper Harriers club newsletters, acting as club Secretary, developing handicap races and successfully gaining funding for initiatives in the sport.
