Bronze in Bangkok for Derby's Luke Taylor

Derby's Luke Taylor has won a bronze medal at the 2008 Junior World Judo Championships in Bangkok.

Luke won his medal in the -90kg weight category, beating Tomasz Domanski of Poland.

In his pool he beat Thanh Ngo Tuong of Vietnam, Pablo Luciano Tomasetti of Italy, and Anthony Laignes of France in golden score. His only defeat was against the reigning Junior World Champion Dela Croes of Holland in his semi-final.

Kate Howey, Lead World Class Development Coach, said: “Luke had a magnificent day. I think he probably fought the best he has ever fought in his life.”

Luke's medal came on the second day of the competition, which took place in Bangkok from October 23 to 26.

It followed a number of British players who had fallen victim to the new repechage system being trialled at the event, where only players who reach the quarter finals have the opportunity to be pulled back to the repechage.
