Remy, who attends Meadows Community School in Chesterfield and is member of Chesterfield Golf Club, won through by a narrow margin after competing against the county’s top 16 players in the two-day Matchplay Championships at Erewash Valley Golf Club, Ilkeston.
Remy, (16), faced Tom Burrows from Friesland School in Sandiacre and Trent Lock Golf Club in Long Eaton in the semi-final.
In what was a very tight match, Remy holed the putt on the last green to win it.
In the other semi-final, Jonathan Dawson from Chesterfield College beat his friend and golfing rival Jordan Howard, from Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School, on the 17th green in another tight game. Both students play at Hallowes Golf Club in Dronfield.
Remy then went on to beat Jonathan, (18), in the final, while Tom, (16), and Jordan, (17), competed in a losing semi-finalists match, with Tom taking third place and Jordan finishing fourth in sudden death.
In the final Remy played superb golf well under his seven handicap to win by 4 & 3.
All 16 golfers who competed in the Fairgrove Homes Derbyshire Schools Matchplay Championships qualified after first playing in the Fairgrove Homes Derbyshire Schools’ Championships, which were staged at Chevin Golf Club in Belper in May.
More than 100 Derbyshire school pupils from more than 20 secondary and primary schools had taken part in the Chevin event.
John Barker, secretary of the Derbyshire Schools Golf Association, which organises the event, said: “The Fairgrove Homes Derbyshire Schools Matchplay Championships is a great event and all 16 competitors had to beat strong opponents to qualify.
“They can all be very proud of their performance, but special congratulations must go to Remy who is a thoroughly deserving winner. For the last two years he has made the last 16 out of 100 players to qualify and then won four consecutive matches to win the event.”
The Fairgrove Homes Derbyshire Schools Matchplay Championships is part of the Derbyshire Schools Golf season and along with the county’s other schools events it is this year being sponsored by Ilkeston-based housing developers Fairgrove Homes.
It was organised by the Derbyshire Schools Golf Association, part of the Derbyshire School Sports Association (DSSA), which is the lead body responsible for school sport in Derbyshire.
