Players from Derbyshire Cricket Board’s Mini Academy and Emerging Players Programme will work with specialist trainers in La Manga over two days, focussing on movement skills and fielding.
The sessions will be captured by a film crew, and will be included in the DVD Wings to Fly VI: “Catch, Stop, Throw”, which will be distributed to 11,000 cricket coaches in England and Wales.
The Derbyshire players were selected for the trip to Spain after first being invited to train at the National Cricket Centre at Loughborough University earlier this year.
At that session England fielding coach Richard Halsall put players through their paces on a fielding circuit identical to the one the current England players use at both Test and ODI level.
The nine players due to fly out to La Manga on Friday, November 28 are Tom Knight, Michael Mitchell, Matthew Goodacre, Harry White, Adam Bedford, Nick Rigg, Gregory Cork, Mykylo Bird and Sam Lang. They will be accompanied by Chris Porter, Derbyshire Cricket Board Performance Manager.
The trip is being funded by the England and Wales Cricket Board.
Chris said: “It is an honour for Derbyshire to be chosen to part of this project, which will allow some of the county’s cricketing talent to be showcased across England and Wales.
“It is also a great opportunity for the young players involved, and the invitation to La Manga is all credit to their hard work and professionalism.”
