Derventio Top Medal Table at Midland Youth Championships

The Derbyshire squad bagged an amazing 23 gold, 10 silver and 7 bronze medals, beating local rivals Nova Centurion into 2nd place. Top performers were 14 year-old Ann Morris who took 1st place in all 5 freestyle events and Zi Chen Liu (16) who bagged gold in the 200m freestyle, 100 & 200m backstroke and 200m m individual medley and silver in the 100m Freestyle. Richard Sellers (19) was also in excellent form, winning 5 gold and one silver. Chris Steeples (15) also swept the board in all breaststroke events, taking top spot in the 50, 100 & 200m.

In the relays, Derventio also took gold in both the men & women’s 4x100m medley relay, silver in the women’s 4 x 200m Freestyle and bronze in the 4 x 100m event . Other medal winners were:

Livvi Sefton (16) Gold: 50 & 100m Butterfly. Silver: 200m Butterfly

Emma Smithurst (17) Gold: 200m Butterfly. Silver: 100m Butterfly. Bronze: 200 Individual Medley.

Dave Ellis Gold: 400m Freestyle. Silver: 100m Breastroke, 200m Individual Medley.

Jamie Broom (18) Gold: 100m Freestyle.

Laura Jamieson (16) Silver 50 &100m Backstroke. Bronze: 200m Backstroke.

Greg Cherry Silver: 50m Freestyle. Bronze: 100m Freestyle

John Davey (19) Silver: 200m Breastroke

Frances Anderson (13) Silver: 50m Butterfly.

Scott Tovell-Coleman (15) Bronze: 1500m Freestyle

Joanne Reeks Bronze: 1500m Freestyle

Head Coach Mark Rose said: “Our swimmers have yet again proved their mettle, producing excellent results. The focus is now on preparation for the National Championships in August, where I expect further successes. The younger members of the squad will also be taking part in the Midland Age Group Championships next month, which in addition to the Youth results, will without doubt, prove the extent to which our swimmers dominate at all ages ”
