A total of 28 boats took part, from clubs from all over the country including Sussex, London, Bristol, Leicester and Northamptonshire as well as more local clubs from Loughborough and Derby.
The Duke of Devonshire Trophy was donated by Andrew Cavendish the 11th Duke, one of whose interests was furthering the cause for the integration of people with disabilities into all strands of life including sport.
Originally the trophy was awarded to the winner of a series of races for the International 2.4mR class of single seat racing sailboat which is the current Paralympic class. However, due to the introduction of the Access Dinghy which is simpler to sail and catering for wider participation it was decided some years ago to stage the Duke of Devonshire event as part of the Access Dinghy Association Traveller Series of races which take part throughout the UK.
Taking place in the superb setting of Carsington Water and with the help of Carsington Sailing Club, Carsington Sailability have made this event one of the most popular.
Results are below:
2.3 Access Dinghy Class 1st and the Duke of Devonshire Trophy - Mike Shewin, Rutland Sailability.
303 Access Dinghy Class 1st and the Bakewell Rotary Club Challenge Shield - Paul Holzier, Fransham Pond Sailing Club, Bristol.
Access Liberty Class - Simon Harle, Rutland Sailability.
