Derbyshire Sport has secured funding for the new role from Sport England, and it is hoped that someone could be in post by October.
The post will initially be for 12 months, although Sport England has given an in principal funding commitment for three years if the post holder meets the target of raising £40,000 in the first year.
The role of the full-time Funding Officer will be to help meet some of the core costs within Derbyshire Sport, and also generate funding to deliver priority projects and initiatives and help achieve the objectives within the Derbyshire Plan for Sport and Physical Activity Plan.
By the end of year four the aim is to bring in an additional £600,000 into the county per year from a more diverse range of funders supporting sports projects in the county, including other Lottery distributors, government funding streams, European funding, private sector companies and charitable trusts, resulting in less dependence on Sport England.
Derbyshire Sport director David Joy said: “Within Derbyshire Sport we are aware of a number of revenue funding streams that are available that could help us meet the sporting needs in the county. However many of these are currently being left untapped as neither Derbyshire Sport nor its partners have the staff resources in place to explore the funding sources in more detail, match funding streams to appropriate project ideas and submit well structured and presented funding applications.”
