Derbyshire schools invited to join Paralympic handover celebrations

Derbyshire schools are being invited to join the celebrations to officially mark the Paralympic Games handover from Beijing to London.

Wednesday, September 17, 2008 will officially mark the build up to the 2012 Paralympic Games and, as the Olympic Games handover takes place during the school holidays, it is being hailed as the perfect opportunity for schools to celebrate the start of the London Olympiad.

London 2012 is inviting schools and colleges to celebrate the handover of the Paralympic flag to the UK, and its website includes ideas of how to get involved.

Schools can register at http://paralympichandover.london2012.com/ (opens in a new window) to receive a range of resources, and also lets teachers and young people share their ideas for celebrating the handover.

So far ideas include a flag relay and a Paralympics-themed sports day, as well as creating a 2012 time capsule.
