Workmates sought for 10k's Team Challenge

11 January 2008

Teams of workmates who fancy getting fit, setting themselves a challenge, raising money for charity or just having fun are being sought to take part in a special event within this year's Derbyshire Building Society 10k run.

The Championing Derbyshire Corporate Team Challenge will see teams of four or more compete in the race, with the top four individual 10k (6.2miles) finish times from each team added together to form the result.

The quickest combined team time wins!

The Team Challenge is open to workforces across Derbyshire, and aims to encourage work colleagues to become more active and enjoy a healthy lifestyle together.

It is also a chance to do battle with other workplaces in the county, in the hope of being crowned the winners of the Team Challenge.

The event will be officially launched at Derby's Pride Park on January 25, but entries are now being accepted at www.sporting-futures.org.uk (opens in a new window).

The Team Challenge will take place within the 10k, which is also open to individuals, and will be held on April 20.

The entire event is organised by Sporting Futures, a Derby-based charity which uses sport to reach out to young people and help them gain life skills and communicate better with those around them.

Entrants in the Team Challenge will enjoy all the benefits of the individual 10k race, which includes a T-shirt for all finishers and a pre and post-race massage, and there will also be additional prizes and post-race hospitality in the Pedigree Suite overlooking Pride Park Stadium.

It is being supported by EMDA (East Midlands Development Agency) and the Derbyshire 2012 Management Group in a bid to encourage more individuals and businesses to get involved in sport and physical activity.

Entry forms have been sent out to last year?s runners, and in addition are available in branches of the Derbyshire Building Society throughout the county.

The event will begin at 9.30am on Sunday, April 20, with the route taking in Derby city centre before finishing inside Pride Park Stadium.
