Festival will show pupils its Fun to Run

29 February 2008

Around 200 Chesterfield school pupils are to be given an introduction to competitive running at a Fun to Run Festival.

Year 3 pupils from six schools will take part in the event at Brookfield Community School on Thursday, March 6.

They will enjoy a number of fun running games, led by 20 young leaders, before taking part in a cross country run.

The Festival, organised by Chesterfield Partnership Development Manager Barbara Hickmore, will give pupils the chance to compete with their classmates as well as pupils from other schools, and the best individual runners will be rewarded.

A winning school will also be crowned, with the times of each school’s top ten finishers being added together to form the result.

The six schools taking part in the event are Wigley Primary School, Westfield Infant School, Walton Holymoorside Primary School, Old Hall Junior School, Brampton Primary School and Abercrombie Community Primary School, which are all part of Brookfield School’s family cluster.

Similar events are taking place across the families of schools within Chesterfield’s School Sports Partnership, and this will culminate in a final at Mount St Marys on March 14.
