A team from Sandiacre’s Friesland School has been crowned winners of Derbyshire’s first evercounty Futsal competition.
More than 120 year seven pupils competed at the event - giving many pupils their first chance to represent their school in sport.
Friesland’s team took the winners’ trophy after topping their league and then playing off against teams from Duffield’s Ecclesbourne School and Brookfield Community School in Chesterfield.
Mike Spinks, National Competition Manager from The English Schools Football Association, presented a trophy and medals to the winners.
Friesland will now represent Derbyshire in the FA National Futsal Competition in July.
Futsal is a format of Small Sided Football which was developed in South America, and has helped players such as Luis Figo, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho develop their footwork skills.
Derbyshire Sport Competition Manager Phil Basterfield said: “The event was a great success engaging with new pupils offering them high quality competition and experiences.
“For the very first competition to have such a high turn out of schools and pupils is fantastic to see and I thank the schools for the time and efforts within their schools.
“Working closer with The Derbyshire County Football Association, The English Schools Football Association and Derbyshire Schools’ Sport Association will strengthen the development of the competition and the game within Derbyshire and have more pupils playing participating in school competition.”
A county competition for year seven girls will be held on January 20 at Alfreton Leisure Centre.
