Derby Ducks hockey group looking for new members

17 December 2008

Women who would like to start the New Year with a new challenge or a return to sport are being invited to join Derby Ducks, an informal women’s hockey group.

The group currently has around 25 members who meet on Sunday evenings at Moorways Sports Complex, and they are now hoping to attract new players.

Set up to provide local women with the chance to exercise in a fun team environment, without being part of a formal club, many of the current players are in their late 20s, 30s and early 40s.

However they would like to recruit more players of any age to sustain the group long term.

Derbyshire Sport Funding Officer Rachel Scott, a member of Derby Ducks, said: “Our sessions seem to appeal to women who have not taken part in sport and exercise for some years, particularly those who have had families and have got out of the habit of regular exercise.

“Anyone of any age is welcome to come along and play and players do not need to have played hockey before or know the rules.”

Sessions are held each Sunday from 7pm to 8pm. To find out more go to www.derbyduckshockey.co.uk (opens in a new window)
