Barrow Hill 'B Happy' project scoops share of Peoples Millions

A Derbyshire project to build a new teen play area has scooped £50,000 of BIG Lottery money.

The ‘B Happy’ project in Barrow Hill went head to head with a project in Leeds on the BIG Lottery's Peoples Millions TV vote.

People across Derbyshire were urged to vote when phone lines opened on November 25, and it received so much support that it was crowned the winner live on ITV.

The money will allow the project to relocate an under-used play area to a new location that already has a football pitch and youth shelter.

A local school, community groups and residents will plant shrubbery and young people will also be involved in designing artwork.

Chesterfield Borough Council Chief Executive Huw Bowen said: “This is great news for the children and young people of Barrow Hill. May I express my thanks to everyone who supported and voted for the project.”
