Young athletes take part in Star:track scheme
More than 50 young athletes got their Easter holiday off to an active start by taking part in the 2-day Norwich Union-sponsored 'Star:track' athletics scheme.
Star:track is one of UK Athletics' flagship programmes aimed at young athletes to introduce athletics in a fun and exciting format. This is the first time that a Star:track scheme has been run from the Rutland Sports Park, Ilkeston and was organised by the Amber Valley and Erewash Athletics Development Group.
Amber Valley AC, which is based at the Rutland Sports Park, played a large part in the organisation and delivery of the scheme with Amber Valley AC coaches leading the activities on both days. The 8 to 14 year olds from across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire got to experience a wide range of athletics events during the course and each participant received a Star:track goodie bag containing Star:track items including a scheme T-shirt and gloves.
The younger athletes also came away with a certificate having participated in the Norwich Union Agility Challenge Pentathlon event. It is intended to make Star:track an annual event during the Easter holidays.
Amber Valley AC welcomes athletes of all ages (minimum 8 years) from Erewash, Amber Valley and surrounding areas. The club is based at the Rutland Sports Park athletics track, Ilkeston. It provides coaching and competition opportunities locally and nationally in track and field, cross country, road, and sportshall athletics. More details can be found on www.avac.org.uk
