The Derbyshire Talented Athlete Fund seeks nominations from non priority sports

Talented sports performers from non priority sports in Derbyshire are being invited to apply for a share of The Derbyshire Talented Athlete Fund.

The Fund aims to give financial support to Derbyshire’s top sporting performers to help them with their training needs, and parents or coaches of athletes from outside the 26 priority sports can now apply.

Performers over the age of 18 from non priority sports can also apply for a bursary themselves.

Derbyshire Sport has been working with Derbyshire County Cricket Club and Lorson International to establish the Fund, and thanks to the support of local authorities and private sector funding a £28,000 pot has so far been established.

This money will be handed out over the next 12 months.

Anyone wishing to make a nomination should fill in the online form here.

Performers from all sports recognised by Sport England are eligible for help to meet costs such as travel, training and equipment, and should be nominated if they have the potential to compete for England or Great Britain within the next 12 to 18 months.

The aim is to help emerging sports stars who are not yet Lottery funded or receiving help through the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme.

A panel of individuals from a range of organisations involved in the development of talented sports people will meet regularly to make funding decisions.

Athletes from the 26 priority sports are also eligible for a bursary, but applications must be made through the county governing body.

The priority sports are: athletics, boccia, cricket, girls football, hockey, orienteering, rugby union, swimming, triathlon, badminton, boxing, cycling, golf, judo, rowing, sailing, table tennis, volleyball, basketball, canoeing, equestrian, gymnastics, netball, rugby league, squash and tennis.
