Regional gala to give young disabled swimmers chance to compete
Young disabled swimmers are being given the chance to compete at a regional gala due to be held in April.
The Regional Disability Development Gala is for swimmers who are in the early stages of the sport or who have limited access to competition, and aims to encourage more people with a disability to take up swimming.
The gala is pan-disability with swimmers grouped according to their entry time, and caters for a wide range of ability from a walking race over 12 metres in the shallow water of the small pool to two length swims in the 25 metre pool.
As well as individual events there will be a freestyle relay at the end of the gala for both boys and girls teams, and two mixed relays in the walking and swimming disciplines over 4x12 metres earlier in the day.
Certificates will be awarded to all competitors, with a medal for the winner of each heat.
The event, organised by Melton Mowbray Swimming Club and Melton Borough Council, will be held on Sunday, April 27, at Waterfield Leisure Pool, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.
