Gymnasts compete for glory at Derbyshire festival
More than 80 gymnasts have competed in Derbyshire's first Secondary Schools County Competition for gymnastics.
The festival was held at Tupton Hall School Sports Centre, with School Sport Partnerships from Derby City East and West, South Derbyshire, North East Derbyshire, Chesterfield, High Peak, Derbyshire Dales and Amber Valley entering mixed teams.
In total 88 gymnasts competed for a host of individual medals and the team title.
Taking the overall team title was Derby City West School Sport Partnership.
Meanwhile there were also individual wins for pupils from Netherthorpe School in Chesterfield, Chapel High School in the High Peak, Tupton Hall School in North East Derbyshire and Ecclesbourne School, Mortimer Wilson School, Swanwick Hall School, Heanorgate School and Belper School in Amber Valley.
Karen Shopland, Partnership Development Manager for North East Derbyshire School Sport Partnership, which hosted the competition, said: "As a Sports College, Tupton Hall School were proud to host the first ever secondary county gymnastics festival.
"The hard work that went into the organisation of the event was certainly worth it with more than 80 gymnasts taking part from eight district teams.
"It was a great opportunity for gymnasts who do not currently compete for a gymnastics club to experience a competitive gymnastics event.
"Hopefully gymnastics clubs across Derbyshire will reap the rewards with some enthusiastic new members!"
The competition saw gymnasts from school years 7 to 11 compete on three apparatus, Floor, Vault and Body Management.
Young Leaders from The Gymnastics Leadership Academy in High Peak and from Step into Sport in Amber Valley and Erewash supported the running of the event.
