Gymnastics Disability Roadshow heads for Derbyshire
An awareness event to promote gymnastics for young people with a disability is coming to Derbyshire.
The East Midlands Gymnastics and Trampolining Disability Roadshow will be a chance for people to come along and try gymnastics and trampolining for themselves, and find out how they can get more involved.
It will also be a chance for teachers and coaches to get new ideas and support to allow them to work with disabled performers.
The Roadshow will be held at Moorways Sports Complex in Derby on Sunday, April 27, from 10am until 4pm.
The day will be a mix of practical ‘come and try’ sessions and workshops, as well as a number of displays by disabled gymnasts.
All ages are welcome and no previous gymnastics or trampolining experience is required – the emphasis is on learning and having fun.
It is being organised by the East Midlands Gymnastics Association in partnership with English Gymnastics and British Gymnastics, the English Federation for Disability Sport – East Midlands, and Derbyshire Sport.
It follows a successful inaugural event last year in Nottinghamshire, and was set up as part of the East Midlands Gymnastics Association regional disabilities project to support and develop disability participation within clubs through club and coach development.
Gemma Barton, English Gymnastics Regional Development Officer for the East Midlands, said: “The event was held for the first time last year and was a great way of introducing gymnastics to disabled young people.
“We hope this year's event will be even more of a success and look forward to welcoming people from across the region and beyond.”
After the event a number of courses designed to support gymnastics and trampolining clubs in coaching and teaching disabled performers will be held locally.
Anyone wishing to attend the roadshow must register in advance and should contact event organiser Gemma Barton at gemma.barton@englishgymnastics.org or call 07739990210 before April 18 to complete a booking form.
