Derbyshire swimmers secure Olympic places
Derbyshire swimmers Ross Davenport and Dean Milwain will compete at the Beijing Olympics after winning places at the British Olympic trials.
Ross, from Belper, won the men's 200m freestyle final at Sheffield's Ponds Forge, with a time of 1:47.66.
Meanwhile Dean, from Derby, booked his place in the Great Britain team by securing second place in the 400m freestyle with a time of 3:50.50.
In order to be selected swimmers have to achieve the Olympic qualifying time set by British Swimming in the heats, and then finish in the top two in their final.
Ross told the BBC: “I've been Commonwealth champion, fourth at the Olympics, fourth at the worlds, but I've never managed to win a British championship so I'm over the moon.”
