Derbyshire school pupils get running shoes on for special Sport Relief Mile
More than 700 Derbyshire school pupils took part in a special Sport Relief event at Wilsthorpe Business and Enterprise College in Long Eaton.
Year Five and Year Six pupils from Brackenfield School, Grange Primary School, Firfield Primary School, Highfield Primary School, Harrington Junior School, Parklands School and English Martyrs RC Primary School completed a one-mile cross-country race on Wednesday, March 19.
Around 400 Wilsthorpe College students then joined a separate one-mile Fun Run, all in support of the national Sport Relief initiative.
Participants followed a specially marked out course on the school’s playing field, as the event encouraged pupils to enjoy a healthy lifestyle and keep fit, as well as joining together with their friends to have fun and raise money for a good cause.
All students who took part in either race received a certificate.
Wilsthorpe College Headteacher Jonathan Crofts also presented medals to the winning teams and individuals.
The event was organised by Wilsthorpe College PE teachers Stacie Carnell and Steve Mellors, with support from Derby-based charity Sporting Futures.
