Derby 10K Up and Running

The annual Derby 10K city road race is set to return to Pride Park this summer. The DBS Derby 10K, sponsored by Derbyshire Building Society for the third year, will take place on Sunday 22 May 2005 and will start and finish at Pride Park Stadium with spectator viewing available on the day in the Derbyshire Community stand.

Derby County Football player Morten Bisgaard and boss George Burley joined Chief Executive Peter Richardson at Pride Park to launch the Society’s sponsorship of the event.

All proceeds from the event will go to Sporting Futures, a Derby-based charity that uses sport and recreation to encourage social inclusion and develop healthy, crime-free communities.

More than 2,500 runners are expected to compete in the main event which this year starts at 9.30 am, while hundreds of youngsters and families are set to take part in the family fun run starting at 11am, which also features a sponsored wheelchair push.

The cost to enter the 10K run - minimum age 15 years - is £10 for those affiliated to a running club or £11 for those unattached to a running club.

Entry into the Fun Run is £4 for adults and £3 for children. All 10K and fun run finishers will receive a race memento

Event Organiser Kay Smith from Sporting Futures said, “We hope that the people of Derby really get behind this years event by either participating or supporting family and friends.”

Morten Bisgaard said, “As a sporting organisation it is terrific for Derby County to be promoting health and fitness by being involved in the event. I would urge everyone to sign up for the day, whether they are serious about their running and want to compete in the 10k or just want to enjoy the fun run with friends and family. Either way, they will be improving their fitness and will enjoy a real sense of achievement.”

Entry forms are available from any of The Derbyshire's 52 branches, or by visiting www.thederbyshire.co.uk , or www.sporting-futures.org.uk
