County's Competition Frameworks are published
Competition Frameworks, which provide templates for the development of competition across a number of sports in Derbyshire, have been published.
A total of 12 local competition frameworks, which have been developed in conjunction with National Governing Bodies in line with the National Competition Framework, have been put together with information on both school and club competitions.
Each are intended to show, in a simple format, the appropriate competition for children in each age-group and how the competitions link together to form a progressive player pathway.
The aim is to modernise competitive school sport, eliminate duplication and over competition and broaden the range of opportunities, and follows a county-wide review.
Frameworks for athletics, basketball, cricket, football, gymnastics, hockey, netball, orienteering, rugby, swimming, table tennis and tennis can be found here.
Each includes an introductory page, followed by a diagram illustrating the appropriate competitions, and whether they are held within a school or are family wide, partnership wide or county wide.
There is also information on points such as competition length, number of participants and required equipment.
A calendar of all sports, which shows how the competitions should be scheduled throughout the year, has also been produced.
In addition, a High Quality School Competition Plan for the county has now been published.
This has been developed by the Derbyshire Competition Manager team in association with a wide range of partners, and sets out how inter-school competition will be developed in six 'priority sports' up to March 2011.
The priority sports: athletics, cricket, dance, gymnastics, multi-skill and orienteering, were chosen to reflect the potential to significantly increase inter-school competition across the county.
The High Quality School Competition Plan is designed to allow sufficient flexibility for Competition Managers and their local and county-wide partners to develop competitions in other sports to reflect local priorities, and a localised planning process is taking place to ensure that the county plan can be realised at a local level.
Local plans will also identify local priorities for development alongside those identified in the county plan.
