County Sports Plan For Derbyshire

 

Derbyshire Sport - the county sports partnership which provides the strategic lead for sport in Derbyshire, has been re-launched at a conference in the wonderful setting of Thornbridge Hall, Ashford in the Water, near Bakewell.

Councillor Clive Moesby, Chairman of Derbyshire Sport opened proceedings and was joined by Tim Garfield, Regional Director of Sport England East Midlands who pledged their support for the new organisation and David Joy, Director of Derbyshire Sport who outlined the process for developing and delivering a new Plan for Sport in Derbyshire.

More than 100 delegates, involved in the planning and management of sport and active recreation attended the launch. Delegates included senior officers and members of local authorities, primary care trusts and public, private and voluntary organisations from across Derbyshire.

Their input was encouraged throughout the day, to ensure that the new county sports plan will improve the lives of people in Derbyshire, by promoting opportunities to be involved in sport and active recreation.

Councillor Clive Moesby, Chair of Derbyshire Sport, said: “We are delighted that so many representatives from all sectors have come together to pledge their support to develop sport and physical activity in the county.

"By working in partnership, we can provide the very best start for the next generation of young people and increase levels of general participation in sport and active recreation across the county, leading to improved health and well being," he added.

Keynote speaker, Tim Garfield, Regional Director for Sport England East Midlands, said: "High quality County Sports Partnerships are fundamental to realising our goal of making the East Midlands the most active and successful sporting region. We wholeheartedly support Derbyshire Sport's efforts to produce a Plan that will set out how they intend to ensure the county has a fitter and healthier population and is also able to produce future Olympic champions."

Following further detailed consultation over the coming months, the final Plan for Sport in Derbyshire will be launched in March 2006.
