Enjoying new sessions

Michelle Burke is a member of the Glossop Gladiators, a new multi-sport club set up for people with learning disabilities in the Glossop area.

The club runs basketball, among other activities, and Michelle who is enjoying the new sessions says that they make her feel 'healthier and happier' and enjoys being able to play alongside her fiancé.

Michelle who is 28 and volunteers at a local charity shop in Glossop found out about the sessions from her social worker, Margaret Wilson. Margaret is a volunteer at the club, helping out at the sessions as well as with the planning and organising that goes on behind the scenes.

Helping focus

Margaret says that being part of the club as a volunteer 'helps keep me focused' and 'stops me from being a couch potato!'

She is enjoying learning about a new sport along with the other volunteers at the club, showing that anyone can get involved in supporting a club or group, no matter what their background or experience.

A sense of wellbeing

Margaret says that working together in a team among other volunteers at the club 'makes me feel so proud', a sense of wellbeing that so many other volunteers across Derbyshire would share.

Glossop Gladiators play at Glossop Leisure Centre on Wednesdays between 6.30pm and 7.30pm. Contact Jacob Meaton on 07786 144414 or j.g.meaton@gmail.com for more details.
