Physical activity helps to boost your mental health

Being active improves both our physical and mental well-being. However, having a mental health problem can reduce our desire to be physically active.

Should this happen, there is some great support available through Mind who are the national mental health charity.

Support to get active

The Get Set To Go website helps to identifying solutions to the common challenges that those of us with mental health problems face when trying to get active: www.getsettogo.mind.org.uk

Mind have also produced a booklet that explains how to improve your well-being through physical activity and sport.

It covers how being active is important for our physical and mental health. It also explores which sports or activity may be best for you, how to overcome common barriers and plan your routine safely.

Starting something new can be hard - and getting active is no exception. If you've recently started exercising, joining Elefriends can help you stay on track. It is a safe and supportive online space where you can be yourself and link up with others who are just starting out.

There are small, simple steps you can take to look after yourself and make your workplace mentally healthier. Mind's research shows that a culture of fear around mental health is costly to employers.

Mental Health Charter for Sport and Recreation

From elite sport through to grass-roots participation, physical activity and sport can be used to reduce stigma and start positive conversations about mental health.

That's why Derbyshire Sport are backing The Sport and Recreational Alliance and Professional Players Federation mental health charter.

Dementia Friends

Alzheimer's Society's Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people's perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition.

Whether you attend a face-to-face information session or watch the online video, Dementia Friends is about learning more about dementia and the small ways you can help. To find out more, click here.

Dementia support service

The dementia support service is run by the Alzheimer's Society. Trained dementia support workers are available in all areas of Derbyshire to help people with dementia and their carers to access further information, advice and support.
