Max Foord.

Weightlifter Max is 20-years-old and from Swanwick. He took first place at the British Championships in the Teen Raw Bench Press 82.5kg class, lifting 130kg. He competed at the World Championships in October 2016.

Max says: "I have had to overcome various obstacles throughout the whole of my life. I was diagnosed with 'Aspergers' Syndrome', a form of autism at a very young age and also with a variety of physical disabilities too, which have required frequent therapist sessions.

"However this has not stopped me and I have just recently (October 2016) won my third World Championship Powerlifting title.

"In the Junior 'Raw Bench Press' 82.5kg category I lifted 135 kg, beating my last year's personal best. The head of Team India, personally came up and congratulated me and invited me to India for next years World Competition. Fundraising and sponsorship will be needed, but it is an amazing opportunity.

"I currently hold the British title, which I won in April for the third consecutive year and I was ecstatic to be invited to be part of the non-disabled Team GB squad.

"I jhave been competing for just over three years now and am dedicated to my sport, believing strongly in inclusive sport for all. I'm already back at the gym training for next year's competitions. I currently work part-time until early in 2017 when I return to Portland College to build up the next level of sports qualifications."
