The 21-year-old showjumping and dressage rider, from Alvaston and a member of the Scropton Riding for the Disabled Club, won the British Showjumping National Para Club Championship (Grade II), achieving selection to ride at that event based on performance and coach assessment.

Matthew says: "My horse, Garryknock and I are based at Scropton Riding for the Disabled. I have owned Garry for just under a year and have been building up my partnership with him, training with local dressage and show jumping coaches.

"I currently train four times a week together with physio work to help improve my co-ordination and strength for riding.

"This year Garry and I have focussed on Show Jumping. We competed at three major national Para Jumping Events and were delighted to win the British Show Jumping Para Club Show Jumping Championships (Grade II) this summer – my first national title!

"We have been schooling at home on dressage, and have taken part in a few competitions to start to build our experience together.

"During the coming year, we will be continuing with Show Jumping, working our way towards competing in Para Open classes as well as Grade II classes. We will also be starting to compete in Para Dressage, starting at Novice level with the aim of qualifying for the National Restricted Championships.

"I'm also keen to do more cross country jumping with Garry. We are planning to take part in Arena Eventing over the winter and will be looking at doing our first full Event within the coming year."
