The 17-year-old, from Dronfield Woodhouse, is a pupil at Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School and a member of Wingerworth Fencing Club. He won a bronze medal at the British Championships in the Cadet (U17) mens' epee.
Matt says: "I took up fencing three years ago at my school Dronfield Henry Fanshawe and, over these three years, fencing gradually became a bigger and bigger part of my life.
"I now train at two different clubs, Wingerworth Fencing and the Derbyshire Epee Academy, where I work with my coach Anthony Klenczar. I also train at the gym twice a week to improve my strength and do footwork sessions to improve my agility.
"I regularly travel to London to train with the British Fencing world class talent pathway team. This season I aim to get a medal at a national competition and to qualify for the under-20s Great Britain team and represent my country at the Junior World Cup events throughout the year.
"Next season, I hope to progress and be selected for the European and World Championships. My ambition is to become National Senior Champion and to win medals at the World Championships and fence at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics."
