The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games present many opportunities for the UK’s visitor economy. Research* has estimated that the 2012 Games is set to generate tourism gains totalling £2.34 billion from 2007-17, with the rest of the UK benefiting from approximately £258 million from tourism displaced from London by the Games.
Throughout the period of the Olympiad, there will be a greater focus on the promotion of the many natural active recreation sites within the county such as the cycling and walking trails and on the promotion of sporting and cultural events in the county.
Partners in the county will be working to promote Derbyshire County Cricket Club (opens in a new window), Repton School (opens in a new window) and Mount St Mary's College (opens in a new window)as training venues for overseas teams and to maximise the promotional and sports development opportunities if teams do train in the county.
Our central location within the UK, excellent road, rail and air links, our close proximity to London and our many attractions makes Derbyshire a perfect place for visitors to stay during the 2012 Games and to come back again.
