The London 2012 Inspire programme recognises innovative and exceptional projects that are directly inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Derby's Sportsability programme and the Inspire and Respect programme have both been awarded the Inspire Mark.
Sportsability provides sport and physical activities for disabled children and young people in a series of after school clubs around the city. It uses the power of the 2012 Games to encourage more disabled young people to play sport and overcome their disability.
Every week sessions take place at five different locations across the city, including Bemrose, Derby Moor, Lees Brook and the Royal School for the Deaf.
Young people can take part in a range of sports including boccia, boxing, cricket, athletics, new age curling, seated volleyball and multi-skills. The number of disabled young people regularly taking part in Sportsability activities have grown from 15 to around 70 over the last year.
The Inspire and Respect programme uses innovative ways to engage vulnerable young people in sport and leadership activities whilst promoting the Olympic values and the Football Association initiative of RESPECT.
For example a group of young people who were not in education, employment or training were successfully engaged in a Sports Factor leadership and coaching programme.
Friday Night Street Football Leagues were also created by bringing together youngsters from various inclusion projects such as Kickz, Sporting Futures and Lexus, all of which target at risk and vulnerable young people in the city.
This ten week league saw over 100 young people positively engaged in football at various venues across the City including the Football Foundation Facilities at the Steve Bloomer Pitch, Lees Brook and Derby Moor.
