14-year-old Swanwick Hall School pupil Lily, from Ripley, competes in the Shot Putt and Hammer. She finished third in the National Indoor Championships in the U15 age group, and was fourth in the outdoor National Championships with a putt of 12.58m. She is currently ranked sixth in the country for Shot Putt/and 18th in the country for Hammer.
Lily says: "2016 has been a break through year for me. After winning my first national medal by coming third in the Indoor National Championships in Sheffield in February, I achieved my goal of throwing over 12m to achieve a sixth overall ranking nationally in the shot putt.
"My focus is moving on to the hammer throw, which I love because of the technical components and the priority of speed with strength. Although I have only competed in it this season, I have achieved a ranking of 18th nationally, and am beginning to focus on it as a potential long term athletic event.
"Throwing over 40m this year has given me the confidence that I can get a lot better with refined technique and more lower body strength, so the sponsorship from ICON will be invaluable to me for the physiotherapy I am likely to need to help me avoid difficulties after injuries.
"My goals over the next 12 months are to maintain my shot putt ranking as I move into the next age group and improve my hammer technique to enable me to achieve a better ranking in the discipline. I also aim to improve my heptathlon scores this year…especially the 800m!"
