Jog Derbyshire

Jog Derbyshire

What is Jog Derbyshire?

·       A new county wide project which will make it easy for you to become fitter by starting to jog on a regular basis with a group of people of similar fitness levels.

·       A project that helps people who have never run before or have not run for a long time, to start jogging.

How will it work?

·       You will join a local jogging group, led by a trained Jog Leader who will guide, support and motivate you through a 10 session training programme. There is a small fee per session of £2 which you can pay in advance for the 10 sessions (to keep you motivated) or on a weekly basis.

·       Jogging groups will be based from leisure centres, work places, village halls, local pubs, local schools, community centres, places of worship, sports clubs or anywhere where there is enough interest to set up a group.

·       You will be able to find out where your local group is from this website or by visiting the Jog England website (to be set up). Over the 3 years Jog Derbyshire aims to set up over 200 jogging groups in the county.

·       The Jog Leader will lead members of the  group through 1 of 6, training programmes, each with 10 sessions – 2 are beginner level, 2 intermediate level, 2 advanced level. There will be a programme and a jogging group to suit your level of fitness.

·       The targets for each of the programme levels, after the 10 sessions are as follows

o        Beginners level 1 - you will be able to jog continuously for 10 minutes.

o        Beginners level 2  - you will be able to jog continuously for 20 minutes Intermediate Intermediate level 1 – you will be able to jog continuously for 30 minutes

o        Intermediate level 2 – you will be able to jog continuously for 1 hour

o        Advanced level 1 – you will be about to jog continuously for 1.5 hours

o        Advanced level 2 – you will be able to jog continuously for 2 hours

·       Initially most of the jogging groups set up will be beginner level groups but as members become fitter intermediate and advanced groups will be set up.

·       Jogging group members will be encouraged to become a member of Jog England and receive a training log book, regular newsletter and Jog England t shirt.

How do I become a Jog Leader?

·       The Jog Leader training course has been developed by Jog England (England Athletics).

·       Jog Leader training courses will be organised in Derbyshire from summer 2008.  Over 3 year, Jog Derbyshire aims to recruit and train over 250 Jog Leaders.

When will it start?

·       The programme is due to start in the summer of 2008.

·       The first stage of the programme is to employ two co-ordinators who will help local jogging groups to be set up and develop

·       Jog leaders will be trained who will then lead the local groups.
