2012 and Beyond… the county strategic plan for sport, presents a vision “to make Derbyshire one of the most active and successful sporting counties by 2020”.

Much has been achieved in the past few years:

• Adult participation rates in sport and recreation are increasing in Derbyshire and bucking the national trend

• More children in the county are taking part in more PE and sport in schools than at any time in the last decade

• We have over 100 young people competing for England or Great Britain and several world, European and national champions in the county in a wide range of sports

• Our “sports system” is getting stronger with the resources of many public and voluntary sector organisations now aligned to the ambitions within the county plan for sport.

But clearly there is much more we plan to do and to address some of these challenges we would like businesses to become more involved in the delivery of sport and leisure in Derbyshire through ICON.
