Genevieve Somerville

Genevieve Somerville.

The 12-year-old ice skater, from Mickleover, attends Littleover Community School and is a member of the Ice Sheffield Academy, winning a silver medal in the National Ice Skating Association (NISA) National Championships and being selected for the UK Talent Potential Squad.

Genevieve says: "I have gained valuable experience at international competitions and achieved podium places during 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons, despite being the youngest competitor in most competitions.

I have finished number one in the national rankings for Advanced Novice Ladies Category age 14 and under for a second season and will debut in the new competitive 2016 season at junior level for age 19 and under three years early.

"I have recently been talent spotted for the Podium Potential Programme Winter Olympics 2022 and 2026 by Robin Cousins, NISA's High Performance Programme Manager, and filmed for a BBC2 documentary about the world of junior ice skating.

"My short term goals are to achieve a Junior World Qualification score, although age restrictions apply until competitive season 2016-2017 and my long-term goals are the Junior World Championships in the next three years, the European and World Championships in the next eight years and the Winter Olympics in 2022 and 2026."
