17-year-old hockey player Gareth, from Ambaston, was selected to play for the England team in the UK School Games. The Long Eaton School pupil won the England Hockey Association Cup with his Premier League team Beeston Hockey Club. He was selected by England Hockey for the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence, which includes National Age Group Academy training.
Gareth says: "I have played hockey at Beeston Hockey Club since the age of five. The highlight of my junior career with my club team was winning both the indoor and outdoor U16 National Championships in the same season. I also played for the England Under 16 Team and gained 14 caps for my country. I currently train four times per week, including fitness and strength and conditioning sessions. I am hoping to play for England Under 18s this season and to continue to play in the Premier League. My goal is to represent my country in an Olympic Games and win a gold medal."
