Free women's development sessions ignite road cycling skills
A series of free sessions for women looking to develop their road cycling skills are being held at The Tennis Courts in Markeaton Park, Derby.
The sessions began on Sunday, November 6 and will take place between 9.30am and 10.30am each week through to December 11.
Kate Samways, of Samways Events, who is in the process of attaining her British Cycling level 2 coaching qualification, is leading the sessions.
Up to 20 places are available each week and each session includes a safety briefing, a warm up and a coached progressive technique.
In the sixth and final session a course will be set out where the learned techniques from previous sessions can be put into practice.
Kate said: "My passion is to inspire women and it would be great to see local women attending as many sessions as possible.
"These sessions will give women the confidence and ability to maximise their road cycling skills, experience and safety. They are ideal for those who have a road bike, are new to road cycling, or for those who are wishing to commute, enter sportives or race."
Each social session is followed by coffee and cake at the nearby Orangery Cafe.
All attendees must have their own road bike. Basic knowledge of the bike is required, including how to use the bike's gears, cleats/pedals and brakes.
Sessions take place whatever the weather and coaching will be adapted to suit the conditions on the day.
