Finnbarr Brooks.

Finnbarr is a 12-year-old inline roller Speed Skater racer from Ashbourne who has won a gold medal in the British Inline Marathon Championships at the Olympic Park in London, four silvers in the British inline Indoor Championships and three silvers and one bronze in the British Outdoor Championships in the past 12 months.

Finnbarr says: "I started Inline Speed Skating when I was eight years old at a local club. The first year was all about learning the technique and, after a year, I was race ready!

"At nine, I was in the Mini Boys category and I took gold in the British Championships in all three disciplines of the sport, which are Indoor in the winter time, Outdoors in the summer time and our long distance Marathon races in the autumn.

"Following that success, it was decided to start me racing in Europe. The sport is very popular and very competitive on the continent and I took a bBronze medal in my second event.

"I have skated more and more in Europe and, this next year, I will be racing in Belgium, Holland, Germany and Portugal, as well as racing in all domestic races.

"To train, I visit my local council gym and do triathlon training with my local Tri Club all year around and compete in some triathlons, cyclo-cross and hill races."
