Breakfast Runs

Darley Abbey Park

The Sporting Futures Breakfast Runs were first introduced for the 2008 Derby 10k. A total of three breakfast runs starting in February were organised and due to their success, Sporting Futures will be organising a total of six breakfast runs starting in November 2008 for the 2009 Derby 10k.

The aim of the Sporting Futures breakfast runs is to encourage people of all abilities to improve their fitness in preparation for the Derby 10k. The breakfast runs provide people with the opportunity to meet others with similar fitness levels, gain professional advice from athletes and coaches, and to generally make training fun. THE TIME IT TAKES TO COMPLETE THE TRAINING RUN IS NOT IMPORTANT!

The breakfast runs start and finish at Darley Barn Outdoor Centre where changing facilities and showers are available and Sporting Futures also provide a complimentary breakfast and drinks for after the run. It is recommended that every participant remembers to bring warm clothing for the training runs to avoid injury and illness, and dry clothing for after the training runs.

Each person who registers for the breakfast runs will be sent an information document including directions along with the maps for chosen training runs.

The first breakfast run is complimentary and then there is a £2 fee to anyone who has not entered the Derby 10k. For all Derby 10k 2009 entrants, the breakfast run is complementary as part of your entry fee.

For the 2009 Derby 10k Breakfast Run series, Jog Derbyshire have teamed up with Sporting Futures to encourage people to take up running and to also become jog leaders. During the breakfast runs, a jog leader who will be fully trained for the breakfast runs will organise the logistics on the day. If you are interested in becoming a jog leader or setting up your own running group then please contact tom.crampton@derbyshire.gov.uk.
