Ellie is a 16-year-old badminton player from Whitwell who has been selected to train as part of the England Performance Training (EPT) in Derby. She is a member of the Derbyshire Institute of Sport (DIS) programme for talented athletes and is targeting a medal at the next Under-17/Under-18 National Championships.
Ellie says: "I first picked up a racket at the age of four on a camp site in Switzerland. My whole family play and represent the county at various age groups. Mum and dad are veterans now!
"I have been selected to train as part of the England Performance Training programme for another year. This is at Derby University. I am also part of the DIS, Derbyshire Institute of Sport, in which I also train at University to improve my strength and conditioning.
"Including the training I also do on a weekly basis with the Derbyshire Performance Centre. I play at least four times a week.
"I play for two senior clubs that play in the Chesterfield Badminton League and the Yorkshire League. The leagues attract players of the highest standard and I need to be at my best to complete, especially in the Yorkshire league.
"I have also been selected to represent Derbyshire in the Under-18 and the senior county first team.
"I have recently started to enter Badminton England Senior tournaments and was successful winning the ladies doubles in the Worcester Bronze and winning both singles and doubles in the Hull Bronze.
"Badminton is my passion and I hope to continue to play and improve."
