Ed Barbour

Ed Barbour.

Ed is an 18-year-old athlete from Little Eaton who specialises in the long and triple jump. The Amber Valley and Erewash AC member won a bronze medal at the English Schools in the senior boys triple jump and won the Scottish Under-20 Outdoor Championships, representing Scotland Under-18s in the Celtic Games.

Ed says: "I train with Amber Valley and Erewash Athletics Club in Ilkeston with my coach Joe McColgan. I also train in Liverpool with Mike Holmes whilst studying Physiotherapy at the University of Liverpool.

"At home, I train four times a week; once in the gym, one pure sprint session and two jumps sessions. Within that, we also work on other key factors and techniques essential for jumping such as stability, plyometrics and acceleration.

"In Liverpool, I train as part of a heptathlon group which also has a fair few jumpers involved in it. The sessions aim to improve the same aspects as back home and I train three times a week there; twice doing strength, fitness and technique sessions with Mike and once in the new gym (with the University strength and conditioning coach) that Liverpool University have invested in for the elite athlete programme that I'm a part of.

"In the next 12 months, I hope to gain gold medals in the Derbyshire and Scottish Championships along with top eight places in BUCs and English under-20 nationals. I aim to jump 7m in the long jump and 14.20m in the triple jump."
