DSSA Sports Awards 2017 Nominations

Nominations for the DSSA Sports Awards 2017 are currently being invited from schools and sport associations.

Nominations can be made via the online form here: http://www.derbyshiresport.co.uk/forms/view/dssa2017

Please note that nominations will only be accepted for schools and colleges which affiliate to the DSSA.

Details about each category are outlined below:

Individual Achievement - 1.Primary 2.Secondary 3.Inclusive 4.Non-School Sport
Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Special Schools are all invited to make nominations.
Students may be nominated for outstanding performance in any school sport over the last year (August 2016 – July 2017), including Derbyshire Schools' sport, for reaching regional or national representative level, or for performing at a high level despite difficulties which might have prevented them from doing so. Awards will be divided into Primary and Secondary School categories, as well as an inclusive category. Individuals will also be recognised for their achievements in non-school sport (sports not necessarily played in school e.g. ice skating) and there will be a separate category for these achievements.

Team Achievement – 1.Primary 2.Secondary 3.Inclusive
Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Special Schools are all invited to make nominations.
School teams can also be nominated for their success in sport over the last year (August 2016 – July 2017). Awards will be divided into Primary and Secondary School categories, as well as an inclusive category. Teams should have represented Derbyshire or their school at a regional or national competition and performed well. In addition to the above awards, presentations will be made to the winners of the Derbyshire School Games Individual School Championships.

Adult Volunteers
Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Special Schools are all invited to make nominations.
Adult volunteers may be nominated because of work they have done – in a voluntary capacity or above and beyond their day-to-day commitments – to support either Derbyshire Schools' sport, or district sport over a period of time, or for innovative work they have set up over the last year.

Young Leaders / Ambassadors – 1.Primary 2.Secondary 3.Inclusive
Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Special Schools are all invited to make nominations.
Young Leaders / Ambassadors may also be nominated for their work in school sport through coaching, officiating or volunteering in some other way. Groups of young leaders/ ambassadors will also be taken into consideration.

#YoungActiveHealthy – Outstanding Contribution in Helping Young People in Derbyshire Engage in More Active and Healthy Lives
Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Special Schools are all invited to make nominations.
Individual students, groups, staff or volunteers may be nominated for projects or initiatives which have taken place over the last year (August 2016 – July 2017) that have provided an outstanding contribution in helping young people engage in more active and healthy lives. Nominations should consider how the contribution has made an impact on any or all of the following criteria:

  • Engaged all pupils in regular physical activity
  • Raised the profile of PE, sport and physical activity across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
  • Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  • Provided a broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  • Increased participation in competitive sport

Active School of the Year - 1.Primary 2.Secondary 3.Inclusive
Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Special Schools are all invited to make nominations.
Schools can only be nominated for this category if they currently hold a minimum of a Silver School Games Mark (Secondary and Special Schools) or a minimum of a Gold School Games Mark for Primary Schools. Nominations must demonstrate how the school has increased the number and range of quality, inclusive opportunities so that more young people can take part in school sport festivals and competitions. They must also demonstrate how they have used innovation to help young people engage in more active and healthy lives.

Each school / sport association may nominate a maximum of three students in the individual achievement category, two teams, two volunteer / young leader nominations and one nomination in the Outstanding Contribution in Helping Young People engage in More Active and Healthy Lives category in total. When making multiple nominations in the same category, you will be asked to rank them in priority order (1=highest priority). Extra nominations will not be considered. Your nominations will be used to draw up the final nomination list.

Last year's nominees are eligible to be nominated again for this year's DSSA Sports Awards. Nominations will automatically be put forward to the local district Sports Awards, unless you specify otherwise. Please note that due to the capacity of the venue not all nominees will be invited to attend the Awards Evening.

Please note that nominations will only be accepted for schools and colleges which affiliate to the DSSA.
