The Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) is the first scheme of its type in the world and has been in operation since 2001, supporting facilities to provide a more inclusive fitness provision, opening their doors to disabled people.
By the end of 2009, 400 IFI accredited facilities will have been launched across England, meaning more access than ever before for disabled people.
In 2007 IFI site attracted around 370,000 visits by disabled people, and this was projected to rise to 571,000 in 2008.
So what should users of an inclusive fitness facility expect to find?
Accessible buildings and inclusive business practices
Inclusive fitness equipment that can meet the needs of both disabled and non-disabled people
Staff who have the necessary knowledge and skills to offer a safe, effective and value for money workout for disabled people
Organisations that change the way in which they promote themselves to become more attractive to all sectors of the community
