The Trust also plans to raise funding to encourage more volunteers in sport and to support sports clubs in the county.

The Trustees will initially look to oversee fundraising for four projects which will help to deliver the charity’s aims.

The projects are:

  • Coach Bursary Fund – which provides sports coaches in Derbyshire with financial help to support their personal and professional development.

  • Disability Sport Provision in Derbyshire Sport Clubs – to establish new teams, sessions or work with existing clubs to create new sport provision for disabled people.

  • Derbyshire Sports Volunteer Award – which supports aspiring sports coaches to gain qualifications and practical experience as well as offering mentoring support.

  • Coaching Derbyshire – which caters for the needs of coaches through a ‘one-stop shop’, communicating regularly with coaches to understand their challenges, requirements and goals.

Trustee Sandra Deaton said: “We are delighted that the Derbyshire Sport Trust has been established and awarded charity status. The charity will be a great vehicle for businesses or individuals who would like to contribute to community sport to do so in a structured way, and funds raised will benefit clubs, coaches and those who play sport at all levels across Derbyshire.”
