The trustees are looking to work on a variety of projects to deliver the charity’s aims. The initial activities are:
- The Coach Bursary Fund – The County Sport Partnership for Derbyshire, Derbyshire Sport, has donated £7,000 to the Trust for coach bursaries. The Coach Bursary Fund aims to encourage and support the personal and professional development of coaches working in Derbyshire through subsidising the cost of coach education. Eligible coaches must be coaching in Derbyshire and meet certain criteria. All coaches can apply for a maximum of 50% of the total costs up to a maximum of £200 each. Priority is given to coaches from under represented groups in coaching: women, black and ethnic minorities, disabled people and unemployed people.
- Disability Sport Provision in Derbyshire Sport Clubs – The aim of this project is to establish new teams or work with existing clubs to create new sport provision for disabled people.
- Derbyshire Sports Volunteer Award – This project supports people aspiring to become sports coaches. Though mentoring support, qualifications and practical experience, those involved gain the skills and confidence to coach in community clubs. To complete the Award, coaches complete a basic First Aid course, a Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop, a Level 1 sport specific coaching qualification and volunteer for 30 hours.
- Coach Education – Coaching Derbyshire is a one-stop shop aimed to support the development of sports coaches. Coaching Derbyshire is managed through a coordinator, who coordinates delivery of generic coach education, promotes NGB courses, manages the Coach Bursary Fund, produces e-newsletters and case studies and communicates regularly with coaches to understand their challenges, requirements and goals. Funds raised will be used to support the activities of the Coaching Derbyshire Co-ordinator.
