Themed Rounds

The Derbyshire Sport Coach Bursary Fund is now well established across the County, supporting in excess of 200 coaches per year. Financial support is given to active coaches who through their dedication sustain and increase participation and improve performance within sport.

The addition of themed rounds aims to increase the quantity and quality of coaches from under-represented groups.  We anticipate that this additional support will increase growth and sustain participation and create opportunities for all to excel at their chosen sport.

If you meet the criteria of one of the themed rounds, you can apply for up to 65 per cent of the cost of the course up to a maximum of £300.  Over the next year, each quarter will focus on one of four themed rounds:

1. Women and Girls

October 1, 2011 – December 31, 2011 – Round 21

To qualify you will be planning to undertake a coach education course and go on to coach at a club or organisation in Derbyshire and you will be:

• Either a female or male coach coaching female only participants

• A female coach coaching male or female participants

2. Plus 16

January 1, 2012 – March 31, 2012 – Round 22

To qualify you will be planning to undertake a coach education course and go onto coach at a club or organisation in Derbyshire where you will specifically coach:

• Plus 16 age groups

3. Disability

April 1, 2012 – June 30, 2012 – Round 23

To qualify you will be planning to undertake a coach education course and go onto coach at a club or organisation in Derbyshire where you will specifically coach:

• Participants who have a disability

• Or you are a disabled coach

4. Black and Minority Ethnic Groups (BME)

July 1, 2012 – September 30, 2012 – Round 24

To qualify you will be planning to undertake a coach education course and go onto coach at a club or organisation in Derbyshire where you will specifically coach:

• BME participants

• Or you are a BME coach

All applications must be received before you begin your course and you can apply for a themed round bursary up to TWELVE months before you start your course.

In addition, Derbyshire Sport will continue to run the Coach Bursary Fund offering grants of 50 per cent up to the value of £200 to coaches gaining qualifications and knowledge in the sports they coach who do not meet the criteria for the aboce themed rounds. Up to £350 is available to coaches taking Level 3 courses.
