Workforce Development

This is the first county wide workforce development plan (WFD) produced by Derbyshire Sport and covers the period April 2007- March 2010. The plan builds on work done throughout the partnership over the past 2 years.

Derbyshire Sport recognise that without supporting and developing the paid and volunteer workforce it will be impossible to offer increased participation or better access to sport. It is recognised that the availability and quality of managers, administrators, coaches and officials and others is fundamental to a participant's enjoyment of sport and their ability to develop and succeed. For sustainable success Derbyshire Sport needs its sporting workforce to be competent, well supported, to operate to the highest standards and be highly motivated.

Scope of the Plan

For Year 1, it is important to keep the scope of the plan both realistic and achievable. It needed to reflect and develop current work and expand by offering support to Derbyshire Sport core team and key partners.

Derbyshire Sport have been succesful in securing £32,150 through the Community Investment Fund to deliver:

- 3 hour and full day workshops written and designed for the paid workforce, with a focus on soft skills, skills to do the job, and industry related topics

- Subsidised access to Level 2 and above National Governing Body qualifications to ensure all coaches within the Derbyshire Coach Mark and Community Sports Coach Scheme are appropriately qualified to deliver sessions of high quality

- Subsidised access to Minimum Operating Standards Qualifications (e.g Safeguarding and Protecting Children, First Aid, Working with disabled sports people) to ensure Community Sports Coaches and Coach Mark coaches have the relevant knowledge to deliver high quality sessions

- Subsidised access to bespoke courses designed to meet identified coach need (e.g practical sessions with disabled people)

- Subsidised access to Level 1 National Governing Body qualifications for young leaders within the Derbyshire Leadership Academy to progress them on from Leader Awards

Year 2

During the delivery of the Year 1 Action Plan, the plan for Year 2 needs to be developed. This plan must align to those of Governing Bodies and must begin to support the development of coaches outside of targeted programmes and volunteers. The plan needs to address the Active People survey, supporting the development of volunteers to increase participation and the numbers who volunteer. It needs to address those within the Health sector, and support their training.
