Susan Daybell - Amber Valley Borough Council
19-year-old Susan Daybell hopes to make coaching her career, and in an effort to gain as much practical work experience as possible has clocked up more than 50 hours of volunteering with Amber Valley Borough Council in the last three months.
The sports-mad teenager plays for Derby County Ladies Reserves, and has been a volunteer within girls' football, for GFC Alfreton Town for four years after playing for them for three years.
In February she completed her Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership (CSLA), and since then has played an active volunteering role, including assisting at school sessions with Amber Valley Borough Council's Community Sports Coaches as well as at events and competitions involving schools and members of the public.
This included the recent Belper Wakes Day, an annual family sports event.
She also volunteers for the Nightreach scheme, which gets local children in Somercotes playing sport every Tuesday evening, and the Outreach scheme which runs in school holidays.
Susan said: "I want to get a job in coaching so part of the reason I got involved in volunteering was because I wanted some coaching experience.
"My mum works at the council so she put me in touch with Sarah Bingham (Club, Coach & Volunteer Development Officer) who gave me some advice on how to get into coaching.
"I'm booked on a Level One football course in June and hopefully if I pass that I'll go on and do my Level Two."
She added: "I enjoy volunteering because it allows me to get even more involved in sports not just in a playing capacity as I have been used to before but in a way of being able to help others get involved and have the chance to be active and take part in a variety of different sports.
"I like coaching because when you see a person doing something they enjoy and being able to help them develop skills they did not have before and seeing them succeed in sport is a great sight. It also allows me to pass on my knowledge to others as a way of giving something back."
